*Beautiful and Beyond Badge*
By Gina • May 1st, 2012
Recently one of my favorite women ever was announced as “The Most Beautiful Woman In the World”, Beyonce Knowles and that got me to thinking about another incredible female that I have always admired as well!
So, this is my Dream Girl version of People Magazine. I will be recognizing stunning people in the disabled community that continue to shine their light despite physical “barriers”.
The first recipient of the Beyond Beautiful Badge is Helen Keller.
She is a true Dream Girl and has left an indelible mark on many of us with and without disabilities. Ms. Keller was the first deaf/blind person to graduate college and went on to become an author and lecturer.
This was a woman that could not hear but learned to speak. This was a woman that could not see but learned to read and wrote her own books.
Helen’s disabilities were supposed to trap all that she was and leave her in isolated darkness with no communication coming in or going out.
But did she succumb to her physical adversities or let the people in her lif hold her back?
No, she found her voice and gave lectures all around the world.
Helen Keller put the ABLE in disabled. She rose above everything that could have deterred her and carved out an amazing life for herself while inspiring others for decades to come!
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” Helen Keller
